Why it matters

This incident adds to a series of increasing attacks on schools in Brazil in recent years. Similar cases, such as the killing of four children with an axe at a daycare in Blumenau in April 2023, have heightened security concerns in schools across the country. The Curitiba City Hall announced that psychological support would be provided to the affected children and school staff.
